The ConDems are wrong. Immediate and deep cuts in public spending are not ‘unavoidable’.

We are ‘all in this together’ All genuinely independent analysis of the Budget statement confirms that the impact of tax rises and spending cuts will hit the poor hardest.

Growth resumed in these countries because the impact of spending cuts was offset by loosening monetary policy (i.e. cutting interest rates) and/or a huge rise in exports (due to currency devaluation and strong export markets).
There is an economic crisis – it is a crisis of high unemployment and stagnant growth. The ConDem government sees it differently believing that the fundamental goal of policy should be to reduce the deficit as rapidly as possible.
It seems that tough times call for tough measures and Cameron, Clegg and Osborne promote their toughness by inflicting on the country an economic strategy that will increase unemployment and repeat the mistakes of past recessions.
